Dwight D. Eisenhower National Memorial
This architecturally unique, 80-ft-tall, stainless steel memorial was designed to honor America’s 34th president and serve as the centerpiece of a four-acre public park at the base of Capitol Hill. Obscuring the dated Department of Education building, the intricately woven steel tapestry depicts artistic images of France’s Normandy coastline—commemorating the President’s role as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WWII.
The tapestry is supported by a stainless steel cable-net structure spanning between stone-clad concrete columns (each 10 ft in diameter). The memorial also features bronze sculptures, stone bas reliefs, and engraved quotations from notable speeches, as well as a freestanding canopy, bookstore, and ranger control building. Dwight D.
