Congratulations to Principal Kevin Aswegan, who was recently named an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Fellow.
The SEI Fellow designation recognizes accomplished SEI members as leaders and mentors in the structural engineering profession. Kevin authored the book, “Design and Performance of Tall Buildings for Wind” and is an industry expert on seismicity and performance-based design. He is the leader of MKA’s Performance-Based Design Technical Specialist Team (TST) and a member of the firm’s Earthquake and Wind TSTs.
Kevin’s latest project, ATX Tower, is under construction in Austin, Texas, and is the world’s first high-rise tower to incorporate the ASCE Prestandard for Performance-Based Wind Design (PBWD). PBWD will likely revolutionize how tall buildings are designed for wind loads, creating more reliable, lower-carbon, and less costly buildings.
“I am incredibly honored by this recognition from ASCE/SEI and humbled to be counted amongst a group of leading structural engineers in the industry, many of whom have had a direct impact on my own personal growth. This award reflects and strengthens my commitment to advancing the use of Performance-Based Design, developing codes and standards like ASCE/SEI 7, and contributing to the success of industry conferences and events that bring experts together. I look forward to many more years working with SEI to make positive change in the structural engineering industry!”
With this designation, Kevin joins fellow MKA SEI Fellows Ron Klemencic, Chairman and CEO; John Hooper, Senior Principal; and Jon Magnusson, Chairman Emeritus.
